Inspired by the legend of Shizukuishi and engraved by a master. The town of Shizukuishi is situated near Mt. Iwate in northern Japan. Home to Studio Shizukuishi where Grand Seiko manufactures their mechanical watches, Shizukuishi gets its name from the Japanese words shizuku (water drops) and ishi (rocks). The name can be traced back to a local legend about an elderly man who discovers a bottomless cave by following the sound of resonating water droplets. SBGW263 honors this myth, and Shizukuishi with it, by featuring a stunning hand-engraved dial that tells this story. (Be sure to also learn about SBGW264, inspired by the natural beauty of Shizukuishi). Master engraver Kiyoshi Terui and his small team engrave all the elements on the 18k white gold dial by hand. Their work covers not only the hands and indexes, but also the Grand Seiko name and the star mark at the 6 oÂ'clock position (indicating the use of precious metal of the dial). Every stroke of the blade has to be exactly right, a task made all the more difficult by the curvature of the dial. These plates and the dial itself are made of 18k white gold. The engraving of each watch requires many days of this intense and highly skilled work. SBGW263 is powered by manual winding Caliber 9S64. A solid case back is adorned with a gold Grand Seiko lion emblem. This truly unique timepiece is offered in a limited edition of 20 pieces.
