Recreating the original Grand Seiko from 1960. 2020 marked the 60th anniversary of Grand Seiko. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Grand Seiko unveiled three faithful recreations of the very first Grand Seiko watch released all the way back in 1960. SBGW258 is one of the three. The case shape and the softly curved dial and hands are faithful to the 1960 original, but the case back is now in sapphire, revealing the beautiful finish of the movement. In line with today’s aesthetic, the case diameter has been increased from 35mm to 38mm. The case is rendered in18k yellow gold, and the dial carries the star mark that signifies that its hour indexes are in 18k gold, too.  Powering the watch and visible through an exhibition window on the case back is caliber 9S64, a mechanical manual winding movement with 72 hours of power reserve.
