A classic Spring Drive design with a dial inspired by Katsu-iro indigo. The indigo dye known as Katsu-iro has a long and storied tradition in Japan, one that goes back to the 15th century Sengoku period. The distinct blue of this indigo dye signified victory, and it was proudly used to color the armor worn by samurai. In SBGA469, Grand Seiko brings together this dynamic hue with the brand's acclaimed Iwao, or rock pattern, dial to create a highly versatile Spring Drive package through the Heritage Collection. The textured dial has broad, faceted indexes that contrast perfectly against the dark blue base. Grand Seiko's iconic handset features a hairline-brushed top surface so as not to get lost against the darker dial. The stainless steel case measures 41mm in diameter, 12.5mm in thickness, and 49mm in length, and it is finished via Grand Seiko's acclaimed Zaratsu technique.  A sapphire case back allows for an open view of the Spring Drive 9R65 caliber. Produced at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Nagano, Spring Drive combines a mainspring with an electro-magnetic regulator that functions without an external power source.
